Kiva.org  was founded in 2005 with mission to connect people, through lending  to alleviate global poverty. Over 550,000 people have loaned $100 million with Kiva.org  to 230,000 entrepreneurs in 50 countries with 126 Micro Financing Institutions (MFI) that act as Kiva.org’s Partners. Currently loans made through Kiva.org have around 98% repayment rate.

When you Lend 25 dollars with Kiva.org it is a loan (not a donation) to someone you choose to help, and within a few months when you get your funds back, you can keep your money or lend it again to the next needy borrower, and SO-ON…meaning that your 25 dollars could go a long way, allowing more and more poor families make the transformation from “every-day survival to planning for the future”, increasing their earning power – putting roofs overhead - affording a balance nutritious diet - sending their children to school. You get reports from the people you've loaned to so you feel connected to those you are helping. The person you select to support receives 100% of the money you send. Kiva.org IS NOT funded by the loan money you contribute, Kiva.org is a non-profit organization financed 100% by donations by multi-national corporations, and non-profit  foundations. Forty percent of the world’s population some 2.7 billion people lives on less than $2 per day, according to the World Bank, and despite the inroads that have been made against poverty, more than 50 countries are poorer today than they were in 1990. The world’s 10 wealthiest nations are now more than 75 times richer than the 10 poorest. The World Food Program reports that some 25,000 children die every day from causes related to hunger and poverty, meaning the death of a child every 3.5 Seconds!

A REALITY TOO DEVASTATING TO JUSTIFY PATIENCE

 Despite the dire numbers, improving solutions do exist, and Microfinance is one of them, proven itself to be a powerful, scalable, and sustainable tool in helping to address poverty and increase income. Muhammad Yunus from Bangladesh received the 2006 Noble Peace Prize for developing this concept and lifting millions of people out of poverty. The World Bank estimates that 500 million poor entrepreneurs would benefit from the Microfinance community, but for the time being, it is serving only 20 percent of that population. It has taken more than three decades to reach that level, and we can’t wait 100 years or more to reach the remaining poor entrepreneurs,
